What is Orbeex?

Orbeex is software for working with maps and location data. Instead of clicking through complicated menus, you describe what you want in everyday language:
“Show me every school within one kilometer of the river.”
Orbeex works out the steps, shows you the plan, waits for your approval, and then does the work. You always see what will happen before anything changes.

What you can do with it

  • Open and view map data — files used by planners, engineers, and researchers (GeoPackage, GeoJSON, GeoTIFF, and other common formats).
  • Ask questions about maps — find places, measure distances, compare areas.
  • Create new map layers — buffer zones, clipped areas, joined results.
  • Export results — save your work in the formats other tools use.

Why Orbeex is different

You stay in control. Nothing changes until you approve it. Every step is recorded, so you can review exactly what happened — and undo anything. Your data stays on your computer. All map processing happens locally. Nothing is uploaded to us, because we operate no servers that hold your data. AI is optional. You can use AI features to describe tasks in plain language. You choose the AI provider, use your own key, or skip AI completely and work without it. It is free and open source. The full source code is public. It costs nothing to use.

Who it is for

Anyone who works with location data:
  • City planners and local governments
  • Engineers and surveyors
  • Environmental and research teams
  • Businesses that analyze locations
  • Students learning geographic analysis

Current status

Orbeex is in active development. The first public release is coming. This documentation describes how the finished product will work and what is already in place.
